I'm placing Frankenstein as one of the best of the New 52 issues I've read so far (I've read maybe a third - incidentally, most of them are good reads). Frankenstein is not a mere good read though, it's a great read.
But why?
I think its because Frankenstein has a plot that is easy for readers to pick up, unlike, say, Legion Lost. But. But. the details of that plot are very creative. For example the S.H.A.D.E. organization's headquarter's is the Ant Farm - It's a three inch, indestructible flying globe and S.H.A.D.E. operatives get in by utilizing a shrinking technology perfected by Ray Palmer - the Atom from the old DCU. And Frankenstein, Agent of S.H.A.D.E. goes on and on with these irresistible, well-thought out details while keeping the main plot simple (monsters invade town, Frankenstein and company go in to handle the problem). This way, no one gets lost and confused while being wowed by Jeff Lemire's creativity and Alberto Ponticelli's art.
