When I first learned that Sinestro had been reinstated to the Corps and is the central focus of the New 52 Green Lantern, my knee jerk reaction was negative.
But I've changed my mind.
Hal is still very much here and I'm a huge fan of both Hal and Kyle, but Sinestro brings something to the table that they don't - mystery.
The way Geoff Johns rights Sinestro there is some underlying logic but I can't fathom it from this first issue; and that mystery goes down really well, adds an aspect to Green Lantern book I've never encountered before. It's compelling and works like a cliffhanger would in making me anticipate the coming issues.
I like the parts with Hal Jordan also. It shows Hal failing to make the rent and go through all sorts of financial problems. I know what that's like. Hal is purportedly fearless, which is good, because there are few things more fearful than running out of cash in this world.
This is a good read but this first issue promises that it will get even better. Here's hoping that the new Green Lantern fulfills that promise.
