There was a time when DC Comics was known as DC-Superman Comics. That's how popular this character is.
Superman is the most powerful hero in his universe. He is the template for many similar heroes in other universes like Marvel's Hyperion and Gladiator, Astro City's Samaritan and Boom's Plutonian.
The classic powers: super-strength at a level beyond any other comic character's, invincibility, super-senses, x-ray vision, heat vision. He is the heaviest of the heavy-hitters - in any universe.
