Frank Frazetta Art Books

"Icon" is the first in a trilogy of books - the others being "Legacy" and "Testament" - that offers a retrospective of Frank Frazetta's life and work. These are wonderful reproductions in deluxe art paper. There are 239 artworks and photos featured with 89 of them being full-page images, 44 half-page images and 7 two-page spreads. The current edition of this book has 32 new pages of art and photos. Included are Frazetta's incredible Fantasy work doing paperback cover paintings of Conan and John Carter of Mars - covers that were so good they increased paperback sales of these Edgar Rice Burrough's books.

"Legacy" is the sequel to "Icon". This collection includes 70 full-color paintings including 20 never before published works. Included are Frazetta biographical details including commentary about his work, and Frazetta's take on his own creations.

The first book of a series. The format is such that for every two-page spread the art is presented on one side of the book. I think this is a wonderful way to present the art, allowing the user to view one piece of art at a time.

Work on this book began shortly before Frazetta passed away in 2010. This book includes drawings and painting preliminaries of Frazetta's art. You can get the regular hardcover edition or the Deluxe Slipcase Edition with 16 pages of additional material.

The idea is to convey Frazetta's mindset as he tackles the challenges of creating his art. Printed in deluxe art paper, "Rough Works" attempts to take us behind the finished masterpieces and watch the master at work.

1978 has come and gone but the art in this 1978 calendar is timeless. I'm presenting it here for two reasons. One, this is a fantastic addition to any Frazetta collection. Two, if you see it lying around in an old attic somewhere. Grab it! This is vintage Frazetta and not many left.
